Model United Nations offers a dynamic and immersive learning experience that promotes civic engagement, leadership development, and global citizenship among students, empowering them to address pressing worldwide challenges and advocate for positive change on a global scale.

The Model United Nations (MUN) is an engaging and immersive educational programme that simulates the operations of the United Nations. Implementing MUN in our teaching and learning offers several benefits. It provides a platform for our students in Secondary School to delve into complex global issues, improve their ability to gather and analyse information from diverse sources, and cultivate diplomacy and negotiation abilities. Through representing different countries and debating diverse perspectives in simulated conference settings, students anticipate the consequences of various actions and develop creative solutions to complex problems. This helps them to gain a deeper understanding of international relations, enhances their public speaking and communication skills, and promotes a global mindset. We integrate MUN activities into relevant coursework and provide opportunities for extracurricular involvement through our MUN club.

Empowering change makers

Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are hosted by various organisations, including reputed educational institutions, non-profit organisations, and independent conference organisers.

St.George’s students participating in those conferences at local, national, or international levels, interact with peers from other schools and gain hands-on experience in diplomacy and debate.

They represent different countries and assume the roles of diplomats, ambassadors, or representatives of those nations, engaging in debates, negotiations, and resolution writing within specialised committees that simulate those of the actual United Nations.

In preparation for the conferences, the students engage in extracurricular MUN activities, diligently researching their assigned country's positions on various topics, studying relevant international treaties and agreements, and familiarising themselves with UN procedures and protocols. These endeavours refine their comprehension of committee proceedings, strengthen their research capabilities, and polish their public speaking and debating abilities. Through in-depth exploration of assigned topics, they recognise the importance of forging alliances with other nations to create impactful resolutions.

Engaging in MUN conferences provides our students with a profound journey of growth. Beyond refining their interpersonal skills, they eagerly embrace the roles of diplomats, embodying diverse viewpoints that may contrast with their own beliefs. This immersive role-playing not only enriches their comprehension of global issues but also infuses discussions with a palpable sense of excitement and authenticity.
