Building bridges into new cultures.
The Creative Arts play a vital role in our curriculum, and provide the universal language through which pupils can express their values, ideas and emotions. Through art our pupils build virtual bridges into unknown cultural territory and share the way they see the world. It enables them to work with others to explore and develop their vision, creativity and understanding of our rich and multicultural society.
At St.George’s School, the Creative Arts transcend the role of mere subjects. They serve as a gateway to understanding and navigating the complexities of our world, enabling students to grow, explore, and develop a universal language that goes beyond words. This language bridges cultural and linguistic divides, connecting people from all walks of life. They speak to our shared human experience, offering a unique form of expression that resonates with everyone, regardless of background or beliefs.
Through our comprehensive Creative Arts curriculum, students embark on a journey of creativity, ingenuity, and dedication. Artistic endeavour encourages our pupils to be curious, courageous and original. They learn to challenge perspectives, solve problems, and convey their thoughts in ways that go beyond traditional communication barriers.
We celebrate the immense diversity and depth of artistic expression across a vast spectrum of creative disciplines. Each Creative Arts Department has its own particular emphasis and philosophy but all work closely together, offering every pupil the opportunity to engage with art, from our Primary programmes to the dedicated creative art spaces and virtual platforms in Secondary.
The school is equipped with dedicated art spaces for both primary and secondary students, who benefit from the expertise of specialised art teachers at each level.

Regular exhibitions and competitions provide our students with opportunities to showcase their work, fostering a sense of achievement and community engagement. Additionally, permanent art installations displayed in the public areas of the school celebrate and highlight the creative talents of our students throughout the year.
Music
Music plays a pivotal and integral role at St.George’s. Our music programme is vibrant and dynamic, offering students a perfect mix of performance, theory and appreciation of music ranging from classical to pop and jazz as well as music from around the world.
From playing instruments to developing vocal skills, our students thrive in both individual and group lessons. They dive deep into music theory and composition, unlocking the secrets of creating beautiful audio productions. Our curriculum brings music history to life, showing how different styles and traditions have evolved over time. With modern music technology, students have the opportunity to learn all about recording, production, and digital tools.
We partner with an International Music School to offer instrumental lessons across a diverse range of instruments, including piano, guitar, strings, wind, and vocal. This collaboration ensures that students receive high-quality instruction tailored to their musical interests and goals. Additionally, the International Music School coordinates graded examinations with the London College of Music, allowing our students to achieve recognised qualifications and track their progress in their chosen instruments at St.George’s School.
Our vibrant school choirs and diverse musical groups, including the orchestra, guitar ensemble, junior band, and secondary school band, provide students with numerous opportunities to explore and express their musical talents. These activities help them develop their skills, deepen their musical understanding, and enjoy the camaraderie of working together. Participation in these groups nurtures individual abilities while fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork, all contributing to a lifelong passion for music.

Drama students take on acting roles, bringing the script to life, while the choir and orchestra provide the musical backdrop, featuring both live performances and original compositions. Visual Arts students contribute through set design, costume creation, and promotional artwork, adding depth and visual appeal to the performance. Photography and video students document the process, capturing behind-the-scenes moments and creating video segments that enhance the storytelling.

Creative writing
In our Creative Writing courses, we nurture students' literary talents and fuel their imaginative expression.
Students immerse themselves in writing poetry, short stories, novels, and plays, exploring a rich tapestry of genres and styles. Through literary analysis and critique, they gain a deeper understanding of the elements of effective writing and develop their analytical abilities. The schools creative writing clubs and workshops provide additional platforms for students to share their work, receive valuable feedback, and participate in exciting literary events such as poetry slams and storytelling competitions. These activities foster a dynamic community of young writers, encouraging them to thrive and shine in their literary pursuits.
Design and technology
Our Design and Technology programme, encompassing both curricular and extra-curricular activities, inspires students to think creatively and solve problems through design. It is dedicated to enhancing their abilities by merging design skills with in-depth knowledge to produce high-quality, functional products.
The Design and Technology lab serves as a hub for interdisciplinary learning, blending elements of technology, STEM, and art. It offers exciting opportunities to delve into product design, engineering principles, and the innovative use of various materials and technologies. Students engage in projects involving woodworking, 3D printing, and coding, as well as working with textiles, glass, and plastic. This comprehensive space allows them to explore intricate designs with software and apply conventional methods and tools to bring their developments to life, enhancing their skills in both traditional craftsmanship and modern technological innovations.
In the primary school, students embark on a creative journey, exploring essential technical skills and fostering a spirit of innovation through hands-on experiences in robotics and coding. They delve into design and materiality with fashion and textile projects, sparking their creativity and craftsmanship. Architecture and interior design projects further enrich their learning, bringing spatial concepts and design aesthetics to life and helping them understand and apply these principles effectively. These activities aim to nurture creativity, enhance problem-solving abilities, and cultivate an early appreciation for the blend of technology and design. By engaging in these experiences, primary students build a solid foundation that supports their advanced learning as they progress to secondary school.
We are committed to providing digital resources and learning opportunities that empower both teachers and students to integrate technology effectively into real-world applications, ensuring a meaningful and modern educational experience.
Dance
Beyond the classroom, we offer students extracurricular opportunities to explore and develop their passion for movement and expression.
Through a variety of dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop, students receive comprehensive training that nurtures both their technical skills and artistic creativity. Students gain insight into the cultural and historical contexts of various dance forms, enriching their understanding and deepening their connection to the art of dance.
Cultural trips and events
Our commitment to the Arts extends beyond the classroom.

These events are more than showcases; they're transformative experiences that empower our students to communicate their stories, inspire others, and foster a deeper connection with the world around them.
With trips to art museums and exhibitions locally and abroad we complement and enhance our arts curriculum, allowing our students to see firsthand the works they study in class, and exposing them to diverse cultures, expanding their perspectives, and enriching their understanding of art history. These visits foster critical thinking, and promote personal growth. Additionally, they cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts and develop social and community skills.
